Christoph Liechtenstein is a rescue helicopter in the Principality of Liechtenstein , which is operated by the "AP³ Air Rescue" in Filderstadt .

description

“AP³ Luftrettung” is owned by DRF Luftrettung , Austrian ARA Flugrettung and Swiss Alpine Air Ambulance AG . The rescue helicopter is used in Germany , Austria , Switzerland and Liechtenstein. He primarily carries out missions in the Rhine Valley . The helicopter has a winch and a longline for mountain rescue and is suitable for night flights. In addition to the helicopter, an emergency doctor vehicle (NEF) is also operated for Liechtenstein. The helicopter and the NEF are stationed at the Balzers Heliport . The helicopter is dispatched by the National Emergency Call and Operations Center of the Liechtenstein National Police. However, it can also be requested from the Swiss Air Rescue Emergency Call Center in Switzerland directly on the emergency number 1414. Other rescue control centers such as the cantonal emergency call center in St. Gallen and the Vorarlberg fire and rescue control center in Feldkirch also regularly call for the rescue helicopter.

Approval

The FOCA writes about the stationing of this rescue helicopter : "An approval procedure must also be carried out, as the new stationing of the EC 135 rescue helicopter with the planned 1200 flight movements and the new night-time flight operations involved significant operational changes. For this purpose, an environmental impact assessment must be carried out under Liechtenstein law Approval procedures for operational changes will therefore have to include both new noise calculations and the environmental impact. " These documents are still pending, which is why there is intense resistance against the previously illegal stationing of this rescue helicopter.

history

The planning for a dedicated rescue helicopter location began in early 2018.

Originally, the rescue service in Liechtenstein was only carried out by the Liechtenstein Red Cross (LRK). The LRK operates two emergency outpatient clinics at the Liechtenstein State Hospital for this purpose . The LRK does not offer a regular emergency medical service . After the emergency number 144 was transferred to the Liechtenstein National Police on October 1, 2017 , the rescue service was also available to other providers.

Internationally, the disposition standard has long been established to provide the most suitable rescue equipment, regardless of the provider - usually the one that can be at the scene the fastest. The operations control center of the state police works independently and coordinates the rescue equipment of all providers. On December 19, 2018, the first Liechtenstein rescue helicopter was officially put into operation. In the first year of operation, the helicopter was used 400 times, with 40 to 50 night missions - that is, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

helicopter

HB-ZSJ is an Airbus Helicopters H 135 rescue helicopter, built in 1998. The helicopter was originally owned by Schider Helicopter Service GmbH in Waidring, SHS for short. The SHS is an Austrian emergency doctor helicopter operator with four operational bases in Waidring, Kufstein , Zell Am See and Kaltenbach . Its original identifier and radio call sign was OE-XML. Originally it was painted burgundy. In 2016 it was taken over by the AAA and received the Swiss identification HB-ZSJ. It was originally planned as a reserve for the Aargau rescue helicopter HB-ZJE. ( BOS radio call sign "Lion 1") HB-ZSJ had the BOS radio call sign "Lion 3". It was dispatched by the medical emergency number in Aarau . Since October 1, 2017, he has been flying operations with the BOS radio license plate "Christoph Liechtenstein" after AAA put another helicopter in Aargau with license plate HB-ZJD into operation and made the helicopter available to AP³.

operation area

In addition to the territory of the Principality of Liechtenstein, the operational area includes the Austrian state of Vorarlberg , the Swiss cantons of St. Gallen , Appenzell Innerrhoden , Appenzell Ausserrhoden and Graubünden and the German district of Lindau .

Types of use

In addition to emergency rescue missions , Christoph Liechtenstein also flies transfer flights . In the first year of operation, four out of five missions were rescue flights, which always involved “danger to life and limb”.

The helicopter is specially equipped for mountain rescue. That is why it is also used for rescue, search and rescue missions in alpine rescue.
