SAR 63 is the name of the search and rescue helicopter of the German Armed Forces , which is stationed at the Niederstetten airfield in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The Bell UH-1D machine was put into service as SAR 56 at Landsberg / Lech Air Base in Bavaria as early as 1960 . Until 2013 it was used by the LTG 61 of the Air Force based there, since then the army has been responsible for operations . At the end of 2016, the helicopter, together with the SAR 58, also stationed in Landsberg, was relocated to the 30th Transport Helicopter Regiment in Niederstetten and renamed SAR 63.

tasks

The tasks include search and rescue missions over land and inland waterways, for example in the event of a crashed aircraft (primary missions) as well as the transfer of patients between hospitals (secondary missions). The area of ​​application is the entire southern German area. The operations are coordinated by the RCC SAR control center in Münster .

Crew and equipment

The crew of the rescue helicopter includes two pilots (previously a pilot and an on-board attendant) and an air rescue master ( paramedic / paramedic ). An emergency doctor is not part of the permanent crew and is only brought on board if necessary. The machine is used as a rescue helicopter u. a. Equipped with a ventilator , EKG / defibrillator , syringe pumps, vacuum mattress and emergency backpack as well as a winch .
