Air ambulance in Slovakia

The air rescue in Slovakia ( Slovak Vrtuľníková záchranná zdravotná služba ) is the private company Air Transport Europe (short: ATE ) is performed.

The base has existed since 2001. Rescue operations in the mountains of the Low Tatras , Little and Big Fatra are also carried out from here.
The base was opened at the same time as Banska Bystrica in 2001. The crew is used in traffic accidents and when transporting patients from all over Slovakia to Bratislava.

The station was opened like the first station ever in 1995 and is located at Poprad-Tatry Airport . From this station helicopter flying mainly to operations in the Tatras ( Western Tatras , High Tatras , Belianske Tatras ) and in the Slovak Paradise .

Aircraft

The helicopters used are Agusta A109K2 , which are equipped with a 50 meter recovery winch. In addition to the patient, the Agusta can accommodate a crew of three, consisting of a pilot, doctor and paramedic.

Similar to the Czech Republic, the beginnings go back to joint experiments in the former Czechoslovakia . The first test missions with the Mil Mi-4 were flown in the High Tatras. When a Mil Mi-8 crashed in 1979, flights were suspended.

After the trial operation of Kryštof 01 in Prague with Mil Mi-2 began in 1987 in the Czech Republic, operations were extended to the area of ​​central and eastern Slovakia with Kryštof 02 in Banská Bystrica that same year.

Air ambulance was founded in Poprad before the partition of Czechoslovakia in 1991. The first helicopter was an Alouette III SA 316B. Shortly after the start, the company was expanded towards special flights in the construction sector and the fleet of Mi-8T and Mi-8P increased. ATE rented the Mi-17 and the Mi-26T for heavy-duty operations .

A Eurocopter F1 AS 355 was purchased for the base in Košice as early as 1992 . In the following year the fleet was supplemented with the Eurocopter F2 AS 355 .

In 2003, the Agusta 109K2 that are in use today were put into operation.
