Slovak paradise

The Slovak Paradise ( Slovak Slovenský raj ) is a mountain range in the center of Slovakia . It is part of the geo-morphological unit Spišsko-Gemerský kras (translated Zips -Gemerer Karst), in turn, to the Slovak Ore in the Western Carpathians belongs. The average altitude of the area is 800 to 1100 meters above sea level.
The mountain range is protected by the Slovak Paradise National Park. This covers more than 200 km² and is located in the northeastern part of the Western Carpathians, in the districts of Spišská Nová Ves and Poprad . It is characterized by numerous gorges and smaller waterfalls , some of which have spectacular hiking trails (including free-standing ladders). Numerous caves can also be found here, e.g. B. the Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa (Dobschauer Ice Cave ).
The Slovak Paradise offers year-round opportunities for sports activities, including hiking, skiing and sport climbing.
