As a rule, private operators such as INAER Helicopter Italia provide the rescue helicopters , but also the fire brigade and other government organizations. The request is made via the emergency numbers of the rescue services or by the rescue services on site.

history

Since the beginning of the 1920s, aircraft of the armed forces have also performed air rescue tasks for the general public. The construction of a civil air rescue system began in 1984. In the course of the gradual expansion, the armed forces withdrew to search and rescue services in major emergencies in the aviation and seafaring , as provided by international agreements. Otherwise, they continue to play an important role in air rescue at sea and in areas where there are no or few civilian rescue helicopters. Today there are over 40 RTH bases of civil operators in Italy , which means that the network is almost comprehensive.
