history

In 1987 our own air ambulance was founded in South Tyrol. The White Cross, together with other rescue organizations , did the main building work .

The Air Rescue Working Group has existed since 1997, on behalf of the South Tyrolean provincial government, ensuring that the air rescue service runs smoothly. The founding members of the working group were the Landesrettungsverein Weißes Kreuz, the Alpine Association South Tyrol (AVS), the mountain rescue service in the AVS, the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI) and the Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico . In 1998, Aiut Alpin Dolomites , based in Val Gardena , joined the service , which today provides an additional rescue helicopter during the high tourist season. The state emergency call center in Bolzano coordinates the operations of the state air rescue . Today the private law association is called HELI .

The tasks of the HELI - Air Rescue South Tyrol are:

  • the organization and administration of the air ambulance service in the autonomous province of Bolzano,

HELI emergency vehicle in Bolzano

Air rescue in South Tyrol has four helicopters.

Two Airbus Helicopters EC-145 T2 aircraft have been in use since March 1, 2015, replacing two older, orange-white painted models. These two helicopters are called Pelikan 1 and Pelikan 2 . The base of the Pelikan 1 is in Bolzano , near the regional emergency call center and the headquarters of the White Cross in Bolzano; that of Pelikan 2 is in Brixen . A third helicopter of the same series, Pelikan 3 , has been stationed in Lasa in Vinschgau since February 1, 2020 . Pelican 1 and 2 are orange with a white cross that extends over the side from behind. Pelican 3 is yellow. All three pelicans have good visibility, especially in blowing snow.

A fourth helicopter is seasonal, namely that of the Aiut Alpin Dolomites . This machine of the type Eurocopter EC 135 transmits the color red. His base camp is located in Pontives (municipality Lajen ) in Val Gardena .

All helicopters are equipped with a steel cable winch 90 meters in length. They also have the most modern medical equipment, which turns the helicopters into flying intensive care units.
