The Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico (CNSAS, German "National Mountain and Cave Rescue Corps") is an aid organization in Italy . As part of the Italian Alpine Club Club Alpino Italiano , the CNSAS is active in the field of mountain rescue and cave rescue . The standard emergency number for rescue services in Italy is 118, alternatively 112 ( Carabinieri and Euronotruf ).

National

The CNSAS is headed by a president and two deputies, as well as the National Council with representatives from the regions. There are branches in all 20 Italian regions , in Trentino-Alto Adige one each in the two autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano . A total of 242 mountain rescue stations and 27 cave rescue stations with around 7,200 volunteer specialists are subordinate to these branches (as of 2009). Volunteer rescue workers must be members of the CAI Alpine Club and between 18 and 45 years old and pass an aptitude test. Education and training takes place at eight technical schools. As a state-recognized rescue organization, the CNSAS is part of the Italian " civil protection " ( civil protection ). It works closely with the Mountain Rescue Service of the Guardia di Finanza and other police and rescue services together.

South-Tirol

In South Tyrol , the CNSAS maintains 21 mountain rescue centers and a cave rescue center with a total of 600 mountain rescuers and mountain guides in German, Italian and Ladin. There are also 34 rescue centers and 905 volunteer helpers from the mountain rescue service (BRD) of the Alpine Association of South Tyrol .

history

In 1926 the Alpine Association CAI set up the first permanent mountain rescue teams, followed by the first mountain rescue stations in 1932. The CAI's mountain rescue service expanded steadily between 1946 and 1953. In 1954 the “Mountain Rescue Corps ” of the CAI, then only known as Corpo di Soccorso Alpino , was formally founded . In 1968 it was expanded to include cave rescue, but it wasn't until 1990 that it got its current name.
