In the Czech Republic there is a nationwide network of ten air rescue stations , which are located in the individual regions. The rescue helicopters are provided by private operators, the police and the Czech Air Force . The rescue helicopter is requested via the emergency number of the rescue services (ambulance) 155 . The network of bases is designed so that no point in the Czech Republic is more than 50 km away from the base.

history

The beginnings of air rescue go back to the first trial missions in the High Tatras in what was then Czechoslovakia in the 1960s. Mil Mi-4s were used as the first helicopters . After the crash of a Mil Mi-8 helicopter in the High Tatras in June 1979, the flights were suspended.

In 1985, a coordination group was set up at the Federal Ministry of Transport to prepare the establishment of an air rescue network. On April 1, 1987, trial operation of the Kryštof 01 with a Mil Mi-2 rescue helicopter was set up in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region. From July 1, 1987, the trial operation was expanded to include the Kryštof 02 location in Banská Bystrica for the Central and Eastern Slovak District. On the basis of the trial operation, a decision was made about the expansion of a nationwide air rescue network, which was completed in the Czech Republic around 1992 on the current scale.
