The Koninklijke Nederlandse Toeristenbond ANWB (short: ANWB , German Royal Dutch Tourist Association ANWB ) is a Dutch traffic club based in Wassenaar and a member of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) .
history
The ANWB was founded on July 1, 1883 under the name "Nederlandsche Vélocipèdisten-Bond", but two years later it was renamed Algemene Nederlandse Wielrijdersbond ( ANWB , German General Dutch Cyclists Association ). In 1905 the final name was Koninklijke Nederlandse Toeristenbond ANWB . In the 20th century , the association also opened up to motorists , hikers , riders , motorcyclists , water sports enthusiasts , winter sports enthusiasts and campers , but without joining the European Cyclists Association . Today it is the largest association in the Netherlands with over 4 million members .

The ANWB offers, comparable to the German ADFC / ADAC , trips and test reports and maintains a breakdown service and rescue control centers .
signpost
The ANWB is responsible for signposts in the Netherlands . Since he takes his cycling roots very seriously, the signposting of the cycle paths is carried out with the same care as that of the motorways. The ANWB logo is on every traffic sign.
The ANWB signposts (“Paddenstoel”, German mushroom ) for cyclists and hikers in the Dutch countryside are particularly striking .
ANWB Medical Air Assistance
The ANWB is active in air rescue through its subsidiary ANWB Medical Air Assistance . ANWB Medical Air Assistance operates three of its own stations in the Netherlands and one jointly with ADAC Luftrettung .
