Location of the municipality | |
Wollerau is a municipality in the Höfe district in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland . Wollerau is, together with Pfäffikon , the main town of the district for two years alternating.
Due to the very low tax rates and its preferred location on the lake and near the city of Zurich , Wollerau has become the residence of some well-known, wealthy personalities.
geography
Wollerau is located on the eastern foothills of the Zimmerberg. The municipality extends from the shores of Lake Zurich towards the ridge of the Höhronen and also includes part of the Sihl valley on the north side of the mountain. The Sihl flows through the municipality in the south . The Mühlibach forms the western border to the canton of Zurich. Neighboring communities of Wollerau are in the north-west Richterswil ( ZH ), in the north-east Freienbach , in the south-east Feusisberg and in the south-west the city of Wädenswil .
history
The area of today's municipality of Wollerau ( called Hinterer Hof until the middle of the 19th century ) was disputed between the city of Zurich and the Schwyzers in the Middle Ages. After the first defeat in the Old Zurich War , Zurich had to cede the farms on the upper lake in 1440 and could not regain them.
On the night of December 15-16, 1445, an attempt to recapture was made across the lake and over land on both shores, which led to the battle of Wollerau .
After the uprising of the Five Places against the Helvetic Republic , there was a battle near Wollerau on April 30, 1798 , in which French and Zurich residents fought on the victorious side, and Glarner, Hofner and Märchler on the losing side. When the short-lived canton of Ausserschwyz was founded in 1831 , the rear courtyard remained in the old part of the canton.
