Toponymy

Pourlans is first mentioned in 787: In pago Amaorum… in villa Porlingus (German: In the Gau des Amaus, in the village of Porlingus). In September of the year 787, Fridericus, Count of Amoux, donated lands from his county to the monastery of Saint-Claude , including Pourlans. The name probably goes back to the Burgundian settlement and thus to a Germanic naming.

history

The departmental road D673 is originally the Roman road that connected Chalon-sur-Saône with Besançon . It is conceivable that the connecting road D203 to the south also goes back to the late Roman or early Merovingian period. A first settlement may well have taken place around the turn of the ages.

In the 13th century Pourlans belonged to the de Vienne family and was an after-fief of Longwy. The de Viennes donated the property to the Duke of Burgundy Robert II , in the 15th century the de Courcelle were fiefs and in 1656 it finally came to the Jesuits of Dijon . In 1332 Jean de Vienne issued a basic order with 50 articles, which largely corresponded to that of Seurre . Pourlans has belonged to the canton of Pierre-de-Bresse since 1905 , before it was part of the canton of Verdun-sur-le-Doubs .

The oldest texts in which the church is mentioned date from 1540, the architectural style seems to come from the 14th century, it is dedicated to John the Baptist . The first rectory was opposite the entrance to the church; today the building is the community hall. The Mairie- École was built in 1874. At the end of the 19th century, pig breeding was one of the main sources of income, thanks to the southern slope into the Doubstal, viticulture was also carried out on around 60 hectares. In the community there was a cheese factory, a brick factory and a mill. The bridge connecting Pourlans to Lays-sur-le-Doubs was not built until 1900 . In 1988 there were still 20 farms.
