Toponymy

The first mention of the place goes back to 936, in the books of Saint-Vincent in Mâcon a Hugo de Monte Pavone is mentioned, in 1050 a Hugo de Monpaon and shortly afterwards Aimo de Monte Pavonis . What this Pfauenberg goes back to is unknown, although the peacock has long had a certain mysticism.

history

As early as the first millennium, Montpont was owned by the noble family of this name, which had its origins in the Carolingian era. Her castle was south of today's town on the banks of the Sane-Vive . At the end of the 15th century, the rule passed into the possession of Philipp Hachberg-Sausenberg , along with Louhans , Sainte-Croix and Mervans . By marriage, the rule then passed to Louis I of Orléans-Longueville and Louis d'Orléans , Margrave of Rötteln. Further changes of ownership followed, in 1658 it was taken over by Jean Fyot , judge at the highest court in Burgundy . 1790 was the owner Madeleine-Mélanie Fyot de la Marche, Baroness of Montpont and Countess of Bosjean , the barony included Montpont , Ménétreuil , partly La Chapelle-Naude and La Chapelle-Thècle .

In 1473 a Maison fort de Durestal is mentioned. The hamlet is about 3.5 kilometers southeast of Montpont and formed a separate fiefdom that belonged to the family of the same name. At the end of the 17th century, ownership passed to the du Croizet family , who kept it until the Revolution.

In addition, there were other fiefdoms in today's municipality, of which Denizet was owned by the de Tenarre family and in 1579 by the Bouton family , and where there was also a castle. Other castles once existed in Lessot and Reure .

In 1961, with a resolution dated December 21, the municipality received the addition -en-Bresse .

The municipality is located in a rather sensitive area, as the Solnan as well as the Sâne-Morte and Sane-Vive drain large stretches of the Jura. The following natural disasters are noted recently:

  • Storm damage from November 6-10, 1982
  • Floods and debris flows from December 8th to 31st, 1982
  • Floods and debris flows from May 12-13, 1983
  • Floods and debris flow from May 6-20, 1985
  • Earthmoving as a result of the drought and subsequent water balance from July 1 to September 30, 2003
  • Floods and debris flow from July 10, 2010

heraldry

The municipality now uses the coat of arms that goes back to the Fyot family , formerly lords of Montpont. It appears on the municipality's official stationery. In the 1950s, the community used the coat of arms of the Duretal family , which in particular contained a golden peacock. Today's coat of arms is emblazoned: in blue a golden rafter, accompanied by three rhombuses, 2 and 1 placed
