Toponymy

The first mention of the place goes back to 1189, when Jeldes is mentioned in the Gigny Abbey. Almost at the same time, namely 1191, Villa Martiaci , the house of Mariacus, is also mentioned, today's sister settlement to Joudes. The origin of the name Joudes , which developed from Jeldes , is unclear.

history

Joudes only partially belonged to the Cuiseaux dominion , otherwise it was together with Varennes-Saint-Sauveur a separate fiefdom of the lords of Montjouvent , who had full jurisdiction. Around 1035 it was sold to Pierre de Thorel , and through marriage it finally came to the Tholay family , the lords of Rancy . In 1285 Amédée IV , Count of Savoy, exchanged this area with Robert II , Duke of Burgundy, for the area of Revermont and Coligny . As a result, Joudes became Burgundian and remained a ducal, later royal fief. This gave the vassals extensive rights: droit d'indire, de guet et garde, de treuil et pressoir, de banvin, de tangues . In the course of the 17th century the rule came through marriage to the Thoisy family , one of the most respected and oldest families in Burgundy, where they remained until the Revolution .
