About this picture

The municipality is located in the Bresse countryside , around five kilometers south of the canton capital, Pierre-de-Bresse, and has a large number of étangs . Today more than 10 étangs can be found in the municipality, in the 19th century even 24 were counted. As a result of the many ponds, the community is also crossed by Biefs , artificial watercourses that are used to manage the Étangs . At Bourg springs La Charetelle and flows in a northerly direction. In the west of the municipality, the Ruisseau de Grange forms part of the municipal boundary with Saint-Bonnet-en-Bresse . In the south the Ruisseau des Armetières touches the municipality, in the east the Ruisseau des Tenaudins . The Ruisseau d'd'Aloise finally rises southwest of the village and runs through the municipal area to the north and to the west later.

In a north-south direction, the D13 department road leads from Pierre-de-Bresse to La Chaux and ultimately to Louhans . The route of the D13 largely coincides with the Roman road that led from Pierre to Louhans . In the Bourg it crossed the one that linked Verdun-sur-le-Doubs with Bellevesvre , today's D115 ( Ciel - Utre ).

The place is strongly agricultural, in 1988 it had 54 farms. Today around 20% of the properties are used as second homes or holiday homes, around 50 of which are used by Swiss people. The proportion of foreigners in the population is 30 and is thus 4.44% of the resident population. The following hamlets and meadows belong to the municipality: Alloise, Boibe, Bois-Brûlé, Bois-d'Amange, Bois-d'Avaux, Borgeot, Boucharde, Bourgneuf, Buisson-Jean-Chêne, Champ-Renaud, Chavenne, Chavenotte, Cinq- Chênes, Corbeau, Dombe, Etang-des-Bois, Malatière, Masse, Motte, Parays, Pernards, Pitour, Prames, Préziard, Quemine, Ranche, Reure, Ville-Lambert, Vineaux .

Toponymy

The first mention of a place in the municipality goes back to 1179 and refers to Aloise (phonetically: [alwaz]), which is called Aloaisia . This hamlet is located directly on the Roman road Verdun - Poligny , its settlement should therefore go back to Gallo-Roman times. Also in the immediate vicinity are La Grande Motte and La Petite Motte . At least the large one of these moths was probably created in connection with the construction of the Roman road, as a fort to protect the road.

Capella en Braysse appears in the 12th century . The place was called Ecclesia de Capella in 1141 (name for churches or chapels in the country that do not form their own parish ) and in 1313 was called Ville de la Chapelle Saint Sauveur en Bresse (place of the chapel of the Holy Savior in the Bresse).

history

The old village was a few hundred meters east of today's town, between the hamlets of Masse and Les Pernards (which were already known as Maisse and Esparnay in 1462 ) and was already settled in Gallo-Roman times. The church there was dedicated to St. Nicholas and was burned down in 1637 during the conflict with the free county with the village. The monks of Saint Peter in Chalon made their chapel, which is dedicated to the Holy Trinity , available to the population . This chapel was integrated into the extended church as a choir . The nave was built in 1820 and badly damaged by fire in 1981. With the donation of the chapel, today's settlement was formed around it. The rectory was also burned down twice, thereby destroying the archives. The lords of Pierre-de-Bresse were the owners of Chapelle-Saint-Sauveur from time immemorial.

In Masse and Aloise there were castles, Aloise itself was a fiefdom of Bellevesvre , the Bois d'Amange of Authumes and between Masse and Borgeot there was a bridge over the Roman road. Courtépée describes the area as woody but swampy . There were several mills, the one at Chavenne was built in the 18th century.

The Mairie-École was built in 1846, in 1875 the Massin family built a rectangular mansion in Masse , flanked by a cylindrical tower and with battlements. It was completely canceled in 1981. Today only the servants' houses and stables remain on the opposite side of the street. The community has had a post office since 1900; today's post office was built in 1903. The old boys' school is now a kindergarten and there is a Gîte de France in the rectory .

The place was called Masselibre during the French Revolution (1789), from 1793 it was called Mass Chapelle Saint Sauveur and has been called since 1801.

In the village there is a church (consecrated to the Holy Trinity), a mairie , a primary school, a bakery and a football, tennis and petanque field . At the Étang de Chavenne there is an old mill that is now used as a restaurant, and another is in the village. There are 21 farms, nine construction and two forestry companies, a fish shop and a caterer, two taxi companies and two antique shops. Volaille de Bresse and Dinde de Bresse are approved as AOC products in La Chapelle-Saint-Sauveur .

As a special feature, La Chapelle-Saint-Sauveur has had a public, biological swimming and bathing facility since 2007 thanks to the numerous étangs in the municipal area. Around 900 m² are available for swimmers and bathers (max. Depth 1.90 meters), directly adjacent is a play and relaxation area, a picnic area , a beach volleyball facility , as well as a solarium and sanitary facilities . After the usable leisure area, the water is regenerated in a natural biotope that houses numerous aquatic plants. Small thresholds and water features ensure that the water is oxygenated. With the help of pumps and a sophisticated pipe system, the purified water is returned to the pool. The construction costs for the system, which can be used all year round, amounted to around € 660,000.

Educational institutions

There is an École primaire ( École maternelle and École élémentaire ) in the municipality , which is subordinate to the Académie de Dijon and attended by 45 children. The vacation schedule for zone A applies to the school.
