Horst Kurth

Horst Otto Robert Kurth (born December 13, 1930 in Halberstadt ) is a German forest scientist .

Life

Horst Kurth was born in Halberstadt in 1930. There he attended the Martineum municipal high school , where he graduated from high school in 1949. In the same year he began studying forest science at the TH Dresden , which he graduated with a diploma in 1953 . In 1953 he was employed as an assistant, from 1957 to 1959 as a senior assistant to Johannes Blanckmeister at the Tharandt Faculty of Forestry at the university. Kurth received his doctorate in 1960 with a thesis on the statistical incremental inventory . From 1963 to 1969 he was a lecturer and acting head of the Institute for Forest Management at the TU Dresden, where he completed his habilitation with a thesis on forest management in the GDR . From 1969 Kurth held a full professorship for forest management, which he held until 1993. At the same time, he acted as head of the forest management and forestry yield science department until 1990. Kurth worked as a guest lecturer in Cuba, Sweden, Finland, France, Austria, Lithuania, Russia and the Ukraine.

Awards

In 1984 Horst Kurth became Dr. hc agriculturae et artis silvaticae of the University of Helsinki .
