The canton of Montchanin was a French constituency in the arrondissement Chalon-sur-Saône in the Saône-et-Loire department and in the Burgundy region until 2015 ; its main town was Montchanin . Jean-Yves Vernochet ( PS ) was last representative in the General Council of the Département from 2008 to 2015 . The canton was 59.22 km² and had 9,537 inhabitants (1999), which corresponded to a population density of 161 inhabitants per km². It was on average at 319 meters above sea ​​level , between 252 m in Saint-Julien-sur-Dheune and 442 m in Saint-Laurent-d'Andenay .
