history

The village was founded in 1666 as the second Russian settlement in the region after the city of Tara . After its location on the Isjuk Lakes, it was first referred to as Isjuzki pogost , later as Znamensky pogost , after the Znamenskaya Church built there (Russian Znamensky for Mother of God of the Sign ) , subsequently shortened to the current name.

In the 19th century it belonged to a Volost based in the village of Butakowo, 20 km upstream from the irtysh river . At the turn of the 20th century, Znamenskoye developed into the most important village of the Volost through resettlement. In 1924 it was renamed Znamenskaya volost, and on May 25, 1925, it was converted into a raion of the same name. From June 17, 1929 to May 15, 1934 the Rajon was in the meantime dissolved.
