history
The first mention of the place, then as Kalachiki , comes from a census in 1795, which resulted in a population of 130 inhabitants for the village. In the following 100 years, agriculture was predominantly practiced there, and since the 1860s increasingly also by settlers from the European part of Russia, who were predominantly former serf farmers.
In the 1890s, a section of the Trans-Siberian Railway was laid, which led past Kalachiki. This favored trade and the influx of people; In 1904 the village already had almost 700 inhabitants. With the formation of a Ujesds Kalachinsk on December 5, 1919, the place received city rights under its current name. As part of the transformation of the Ujesde into Rajons, however, the city rights were temporarily revoked on May 2, 1925. On January 24, 1943, Kalachinsk received urban-type settlement status , and since November 27, 1952, it has been a city again.
