Tscherlak ( Russian Черла́к ) is an urban-type settlement in the Omsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 10,980 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The settlement is located in the West Siberian lowlands , about 130 kilometers southeast of the Oblast capital Omsk on the right, higher bank of the largest Ob tributary, the Irtysh .

Tscherlak is the administrative center of the Tscherlak Rajon of the same name .

history

The place was founded in the 1720s as Tscherlakski forpost ("Tscherlak outpost") in the course of the then borderline of the Russian Empire to the not yet colonized steppe areas of today's Kazakhstan . Here were Cossacks from the areas around Tara and Tobolsk settled, and later from Central Russia exiled farmers.

In 1929 Tscherlak became the administrative center of a Rajon. The settlement at the nearby Schafzucht- state farm received in 1934 as Tscherlakski the status of an urban-type settlement; In 1947 the places were united as an urban-type settlement Tscherlak.

There has been a local museum in Tscherlak since 1985 .

Economy and Infrastructure

Tscherlak is the center of an agricultural area with businesses in the food industry.

The A320 trunk road runs through Tscherlak as part of the European route 127 , which runs from Omsk up the right bank of the Irtysh to the Kazakh border and from there on towards Pavlodar and Semei . About this road the almost 40 km away station can Cherlak at the "middle-Siberian Railway" Omsk- karasuk be achieved -Srednesibirskaja that runs from here to more than 100 kilometers through the territory of Kazakhstan. The Talapker and Lyubowka stations, which are closer to the settlement, can only be reached by car ferry , as there is no road bridge at Tscherlak or between Omsk and the Kazakh border.
