Kradepohl is a district in the Gronau district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The name Kradepohl goes back to an early modern settlement name, which is recorded in the original cadastre as “Krahdenpuhls Mühle” and was first mentioned as a field name in 1590 in the form “Cradenpoll” . The court settlement was built around 1700. In 1873 Friedrich Wachendorff founded the Bergisch Gladbacher paperboard factory here . In 1905 the settlement consisted of three residential buildings with 12 residents.

The defining word Krade is derived from the Old and Middle High German word kreta or krote (= toad). The basic word Pohl comes from the old and MHG phuol or the Latin palus (= sump) and designates a Pohl (= puddle, puddle, small pond). In the bergischen dialect is meant by Pohl in particular a puddle, which has formed after a heavy rain or a small-scale artificial reservoir.

House Kradepohl and soccer field

The Haus Kradepohl restaurant with its punt pond and bowling alley was once a focal point of Gronau. Since 2008 there has been news that it should be canceled. In January 2009 the wrecking ball came and cleared everything away. Today there is a car wash there.

On the north side of S-Bahn line 11 was a soccer field, on which SV Bergisch Gladbach 09 played in front of the new BELKAW arena on Paffrather Straße . Parking spaces for commuters to Cologne have been built here since 2014 .
