The BELKAW-Arena is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the North Rhine-Westphalian city ​​of Bergisch Gladbach . In September 2005 the name changed from Stadion An der Paffrather Straße to the sponsor name of Bergische Licht-, Kraft- und Wasserwerke , BELKAW for short . The stadium can accommodate 10,500 spectators. The system is characterized by the main stand with 1,800 seats with thirteen gable roof elements.

history

In 1932/33, the first sports facility was built on the site of today's stadium. The facility, called the Waldstadion , offered 300 seats. The venue was destroyed during the Second World War . In the 1950s, the district town stadium was built on the same site . Its 12,000 seats were only fully occupied once. The final of the 1979 German women's soccer championship between SSG 09 Bergisch Gladbach and FC Bayern Munich took place in front of a sold out house. In the mid-1980s, the stadium on Paffrather Strasse was built and officially opened on September 27, 1986.

On July 27, 2016 Bayer 04 Leverkusen played a friendly against FC Porto (1-1) in the BELKAW-Arena in front of 3,457 spectators .

In the 2018/19 season , TV Herkenrath , who had been promoted to Regionalliga West , played its home games in the BELKAW-Arena.
