Herbert Stahl (born November 23, 1936 in Bensberg ) is a German folklorist . He is particularly concerned with folklore in the Bergisches Land . In addition, he deals with the local mining and regional history. He is the author of numerous articles in the series Rheinisch-Bergischer Calendar and Heimat between Sülz and Dhünn of the Bergisches Geschichtsverein Rhein-Berg .

Life

Herbert Stahl was born as the son of a miner's family on the site of the Weiß mine . Professionally, he worked as an employment consultant. His interests and activities are grouped around the concepts of folklore and mining. In the 1970s he began to make notes on the subject of “Living and Working in the Bergisches Land”. This led to an extensive folklore collection with around 300 titles, documents and publications, which it has now been agreed to transfer to the LVR Institute for Regional Studies and Regional History .

Herbert Stahl and his wife Hilla Stahl started collecting folklore objects in the 1970s. This resulted in a larger inventory of old furniture, handicraft tools and items of equipment. When the couple built a new house in 1991, a private folklore and local history museum was set up on the top floor. The focus of the collection is the life and work of the people in the Bergisches Land, mining , domestic life and a waffle iron collection .
The inventory also includes parts of the literary estate of the local poet August Kierspel and a certificate from 1760 about the award of an order to the owner of the Blegge house . Stahl donated this and a collection of other documents relating to the history of Bergisch Gladbach and mining in the ore district of Bensberg to the city of Bergisch Gladbach in 2011.

Awards

  • In 1992 he received the gold badge of honor from the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .
  • In 2009 he was awarded the Rhineland Talers for his commitment to regional culture and handicrafts .
  • The gold pin of honor from the city of Bergisch Gladbach followed in 2014.
