Herbert Ommer

Herbert Ommer (born September 12, 1952 in Bensberg ) is a German engineer for communications technology and non-fiction author. Since his retirement at Deutsche Telekom, he has been working increasingly as a non-fiction author on the history of mining in the Bergisches Land .

Mining

Herbert Ommer was already interested in mining in the Bensberg ore district while he was studying communications engineering in the 1970s . In this context, he first completed an internship under the supervision of the responsible geologist at the Lüderich mine . It was followed by two internships in mine surveying the pit Lüderich. Over the years he has built up an important collection on the subject of mining and is regarded as a profound specialist in all matters relating to mining in the Bergisches Land. He also offers guided tours that lead to the many relics of mining in the area around Bergisch Gladbach .

Awards

In 2013 he was awarded the Rhineland thaler for his commitment to regional culture and handicrafts .
