Gierath is a district in the Gronau district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The medieval court and mill name Gierath was first mentioned in the form Geroyde in 1345 and entered in the original cadastre in the area of today's street. By the beginning of the 20th century, a hamlet with nine residential buildings in which 41 residents lived had developed in the area around the former farm. Today, the term Gierath is still understood to mean the entire settlement area. However, since 1918 there has also been Gierath Street as a connecting street between Gierather Straße (named 1887) and Gierather Wiese (named 1981). As a result of the further development, two more streets were later created with the designation Gierather Mühlenweg (named between 1962 and 1965) and Gierather Wald (named 1976).
