The Deutzer Weiher - old spelling Deutzer Weier - were medieval fish ponds of the Deutz Abbey . They are located in the Gierath district of the Gronau district of Bergisch Gladbach, east of the Gierather Wald road . The hiking trail, which runs from southwest to northeast and is accompanied by a narrow brook, was built on the western end of the ponds. There were 11 ponds that were built around 1200 on an area of ​​about 300 × 300 m.

You can still see the outlines of the old dams, some of which were destroyed. They are located in the 189 hectare nature reserve Gierather Wald .

Ground monument

The Deutz ponds were entered under No. 4 in the list of archaeological monuments in Bergisch Gladbach . The Rheinisch-Bergische Kreis lists it as ground monument no.10.

Mining

In the mid-19th century, the Deutz mining pond was in the area of surface mining on iron operated. These were the Habsburg mine and the Hohenzollern mine .
