Dünnhof is a district in the Gronau district of Bergisch Gladbach . Today the Dünnhofsweg is here.

history

The early modern yard in Dünnhof was first mentioned in 1666 in the original cadastre . The Dünnhof is presumably identical to Richard von Gronau's estate, which is documented as early as the 13th century. As a result of the advancing industrialization in the area of the old mills on the Strunde , the former farm had developed into a larger settlement with 19 residential buildings and 134 inhabitants by 1905. The Hebbuch of the Botenamt Gladbach 1758/59 lists the Baron von Nesselrode zum Stein as the owner of the "Dunhof" . The thin mill also belonged to the estate .

There are different interpretations of the defining word “thin” . According to the first explanation, the name should come from "tuinhof" (= fenced yard). The second explanation arises from the situation of the Court. Because it was higher than the Strund bed , the flood of the Strunde could not harm it. Its topographical position was like on a dune. Dune is called in Old High German "duna" (= dune, hill).
