Nicole Ari Parker Kodjoe (born October 7, 1970 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is an American actress .

Life and accomplishments

The actress with African American and Indian roots grew up as an only child. She graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University . Parker made her debut in a major role in the 1995 comedy Two Girls in Love. Her role in the drama Boogie Nights (1997) earned her the Florida Film Critics Circle Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination in 1998 as a cast member . In 1999 she received a special award from the Urbanworld Film Festival .

For the role alongside Denzel Washington in the sports drama Against Every Rule (2000), Parker was nominated for the Image Award in 2001. The lead role in the drama Dancing in September of the same year earned her a 2002 Black Reel Award nomination . For her role in the television series Soul Food , which she played from 2000 to 2004, she was again nominated for the Image Award in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 . Another nomination for the same award earned her in 2003 for her role in the musical comedy Brown Sugar (2002). In the comedy Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins (2008) she played a woman whom Roscoe Jenkins ( Martin Lawrence ) campaigned to be in the past.

Parker first married in March 2001 and divorced in November 2001. In 2005 she married the actor Boris Kodjoe , with whom she has two children.
