Martin Lawrence
Martin Fitzgerald Lawrence (born April 16, 1965 in Frankfurt am Main , Germany ) is an American actor and comedian .
Life
Lawrence was born in Germany as the son of GI John Lawrence and his wife Chlora. His first name refers to the African-American civil rights activist Martin Luther King , his second to the former US President John F. Kennedy . When he was six years old, the family moved back to the United States, New York . Two years later, his parents divorced, and Lawrence rarely saw his father, who was a cop at the time, while his mother kept the family afloat with odd jobs. He was also a good boxer in his youth. He lived in Maryland and attended various schools, he also took part in the traditional amateur boxing tournament Golden Gloves , where boxing greats like Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield have already fought.
Career
After Lawrence had already appeared in a few clubs as a comedian, he took part in the casting show Star Search , where he made it to the finals, but could not get the win. His good performances did not go unnoticed, however, and so he finally got a role in the American sitcom What's Happening Now !! offered, this was his first appearance as an actor. Over the years he has made several short appearances in various films. He made his national breakthrough in 1989 in the role of Cee in the feature film Do the Right Thing by Spike Lee . He played his first leading role in a film in 1991 in Talking Dirty After Dark . A year later he got his own sitcom Martin on FOX , which became a huge hit. This was followed by a supporting role in Boomerang on the side of Eddie Murphy . A wider audience, he was in 1995 in the role of Detective Marcus Burnett in Michael Bay's film Bad Boys - Harte Jungs alongside Will Smith known.
A year earlier, on February 19, 1994, Lawrence hosted Saturday Night Live . His appearance included rude remarks about the female sexual organ and menstrual hygiene . The recording of this live performance was later censored and Lawrence was banned from the show for life. In 1996, Lawrence's then- Martin shooting partner , Tisha Campbell , accused Lawrence of sexual harassment . Martin completed the sixth season on the condition not to shoot a scene with Lawrence in the last two episodes of the season . After the end of Martin, Lawrence worked mainly in comedies, including 1997 in Nix To Lose with Tim Robbins , 1999 in The Diamond Cop with Luke Wilson or life sentence with Eddie Murphy. For his performance in the comedy Big Mama's House , he was nominated for the Teen Choice Award in 2000 and the MTV Movie Award , the Blockbuster Entertainment Award and the Kids' Choice Awards in 2001. Due to the great success of the film, Big Mama's House 2 and Big Mama's House - The Double Portion, two sequels with Lawrence in the lead role of Big Mama , were released in 2006 and 2011 , which were also solid box office hits.
