The professional basketball coach Roy McCormick is considered irascible and vain. He is banned from the sports federation after a fatal accident, forcing him to accept the position as coach of the provincial school team at Mount Vernon. At first he hopes to get a better offer after a while. The previously unsuccessful team has been winning the games since starting work. McCormick notes that money doesn't matter to him, but that he loves gambling.

Reviews

The film received mostly negative reviews, earning a 13% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 90 reviews. At Metacritic , a Metascore of 36, based on 25 reviews, could be achieved.

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on July 1, 2005 that he could not recommend the film. The film repeats the well-known formulas of sports films and is predictable.

Film-Dienst wrote that the “listlessly wound down film” conjured up “the fairy tale of believing in one's own strength” , but only served “clichés and borderline jokes” . Martin Lawrence is miscast, whichfurther diminishes "the little pleasure" .

Awards

Steven Christopher Parker for Best Supporting Actor and the film for Best Comedy were nominated for the Young Artist Award in 2006.
