Reviews

James Berardinelli rhetorically asked on ReelViews how a group of talented actors could make such a lifeless film. The characters are boring, the dialogues are “uninspired” and “stale” (“insipid”), the plot does not exist.

Paul Clinton described the movie on CNN.com as boring, poorly written, and poorly thought out. He insults the intelligence of the audience. Clinton praised the portrayal of Kate Hudson, but in general the acting in this film was a "losing battle".

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on February 26, 1999 that the film reminded us that the actors were "containers" that would fill the characters and the dialogues with content. He cursed the characters in this film as "idiots" ("cretins").

background

The film was shot in New York , mostly in the East Village . The production of the film cost about six million dollars . It grossed $ 6.85 million in US theaters.
