Cornelius "Cees" van Kooten (born August 20, 1948 ; † August 24, 2015 ) was a Dutch football player and coach .

Athletic career

Van Kooten began his career at Hermes DVS before joining the newly founded FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie in 1970 . Here he was only a supplementary player and moved to the French Division 1 after a season at the first division promoted OSC Lille . Here, too, he missed the breakthrough, so that after only half a year he returned to the Netherlands and joined Telstar . Here he became a regular and from the 1973/74 season hit double digits.

In 1976 van Kooten moved within the top Dutch league to the Go Ahead Eagles , for which he should play seven seasons. While he scored 13 goals this season in the 1980/81 season, he was appointed to the Dutch national team. After his debut against Cyprus at the age of 32, which was crowned with a goal , he played nine international matches for the "Elftal" until 1983 , scoring four goals. After 79 goals for the Go Ahead Eagles, van Kooten moved to PEC Zwolle in 1983 , where he ended his active career in 1985.

Van Kooten was later a coach at NEC Nijmegen and RKC Waalwijk , but after a heart attack , he ended his engagement early.

In August 2015, shortly after his 67th birthday, van Kooten succumbed to cancer .
