Giovanni Agusta

Giovanni Agusta (born October 4, 1879 in Parma , † 1927 ) was an Italian entrepreneur, aircraft pioneer and inventor of the braking parachute . In 1908 he founded the aerospace company Agusta in Palermo , which merged with Westland Aircraft to form AgustaWestland in 2000 and was taken over by Finmeccanica on May 26, 2004 .

After the end of the Second World War , the motorcycle manufacturer MV Agusta was founded as an offshoot of Agusta in order to preserve the jobs of those formerly employed in aircraft manufacturing.

Life

Agusta's family is originally from Sicily . In 1907 Agusta developed the AG.1 double-decker . In 1911 he volunteered in the Italo-Turkish War in Libya . A year later he was appointed by the Italian aircraft manufacturer Caproni as chief inspector for the delivery of bombers to the war front.
