Johannes "Joop" Frederik Hiele (born December 25, 1958 in Rotterdam , the Netherlands ) is a former Dutch soccer goalkeeper who became Dutch champions and cup winners with Feyenoord Rotterdam . He appeared in the national team seven times .

Career

Joop Hiele spent most of his playing career with the Dutch first division club Feyenoord Rotterdam , which he joined at the age of eleven and where he was the only youth goalkeeper since the introduction of paid football to become a regular in the first team, in which he made his debut on April 2, 1978. With Feyenoord he won the KNVB Cup in 1980 and the double in 1984 . After 318 league games and 30 European Cup appearances with the Rotterdamers, he moved to Schiedamse VV in 1990 , which merged with Dordrecht'90 in the following season and for which he was active for three seasons. In the fourth season - Dordrecht '90 had meanwhile separated from the SVV again - he did not get a chance after relegation to the Eerste Divisie , so that he switched to Go Ahead Eagles from Deventer after the 1993/94 season which he ended his career after just one year. After his time as a player he became a goalkeeping coach, first with Willem II in Tilburg , then with PSV in Eindhoven and with the Dutch national team during the European Championship in 2004 . Since 2008 he has been running the goalkeeping school at his home club Feyenoord.

National team

Hiele was a member of the Dutch national team from 1980 to 1991 , but only appeared in seven games in those eleven years. He made his debut on September 10, 1980 in a 2-1 defeat in the World Cup qualifier against Ireland in Dublin . It was the first game after the 1980 European Championship in which bond coach Jan Zwartkruis replaced Piet Schrijvers for the first time , who had been the goalkeeper for the Oranje team since the 1978 World Cup . In the next match, Hans van Breukelen made his debut in goal for the Dutch, then Pim Doesburg came into play, before he made his comeback at the beginning of 1981 under association coach Kees Rijvers Schrijvers. Hiele had to wait five and a half years for his second international match. On March 12, 1986, the Netherlands won a friendly game against the GDR selection 1-0 with him in the goal in the Leipzig Central Stadium . But then van Breukelen, who had meanwhile advanced to become a regular, took over again. The next games for Hiele followed every year: in April 1987 against Hungary in the European Championship qualification , in May 1988 in a friendly against Bulgaria and on April 26, 1989 in a 1-1 draw in the World Cup against Germany , in which Karlheinz won him Riedle overcame. He was used again in 1989, before he - still the second man behind van Breukelen - made his last game in the Elftal on June 5, 1991 in Helsinki against Finland . The goalkeeper, now playing for the SVV, announced his resignation from the national team a little later. Hiele was the second goalkeeper behind van Breukelen in the Dutch squad at both the 1988 European Championship and the 1990 World Cup .
