Pieter "Piet" Schrijvers (born December 15, 1946 in Jutphaas , Netherlands ) is a former Dutch football player .

Career

Piet Schrijvers (1965)

At the age of 16, the goalkeeper Piet Schrijvers began his career with the football club Hollandia Victoria Combinatie (HVC) from Amersfoort , which at that time played in the third highest professional league in the Netherlands - the Tweede Divisie . In 1965 he was signed by the then reigning Dutch runner-up Amsterdamsche FC DWS , where he was second goalkeeper behind Jan Jongbloed . There he played around 40 competitive matches. In 1968 he moved to FC Twente Enschede and in 1973 went to the reigning European Cup winner of the national champions Ajax Amsterdam . Already at Twente in 1971 he advanced to the Dutch national team and was part of the squad of bond coach Rinus Michels for the 1974 World Cup in Germany . At this tournament, however, he trusted Jan Jongbloed, who was six years his senior. It was not until the European Football Championship in 1976 that Schrijvers stood as a goalkeeper at a tournament between the posts of the Netherlands.

At the Football World Cup in Argentina in 1978 , the new bond coach Ernst Happel switched between Jongbloed and Schrijvers. Schrijvers replaced Jongbloed after the preliminary round, but injured himself in the last game of the intermediate round. So he came to his first World Cup appearances, but again missed the final, which his team lost 3-1 to Argentina after extra time. Jongbloed played their second consecutive final, both were lost to the hosts. At the European Football Championship in Italy in 1980 he was finally the undisputed number one of the Dutch, but failed in the group stage to Germany . Klaus Allofs scored three goals in the 3-2 defeat of his team against Schrijvers.

Schrijvers played at Ajax Amsterdam until 1983 and then moved to PEC Zwolle , where he ended his career in 1985. In the national team he played until 1984 and made a total of 46 internationals. After his active career, Schrijvers first coached some amateur clubs and briefly professional clubs such as PSV Eindhoven or the national team of Saudi Arabia . However, he is currently not working as a trainer.

In the Netherlands, the 100 kg man Schrijvers is known as De beer van de Meer ( The Bear from the Sea ). During his other stations as a player in Zwolle or as a coach, the brawny blonde goalkeeper received various nicknames as Lek van PEC (The Leak from PEC ) and Bolle van Zwolle ( The Bull from Zwolle )
