FC Oss is a Dutch football club from Oss . The club, founded on April 9, 1928, plays in the Eerste Divisie .

history

The foundation

According to the club legend, the two school friends Ton Sleishauser and Cor van Schijndel from Oss decided to found a football club on April 9, 1928. Initially, the abbreviation KMD ( Klein Maar Dapper : "Small but brave") was chosen, but this was discarded because numerous other clubs had the same name. Ultimately, they decided on TOP ( Tot Ons Plezier : “For our pleasure”).

In the summer of 2009 the club was renamed again to FC Oss.

1950s

In 1954, the TOP board decided to apply for a professional license. This took effect with the 1955/56 season, and from then on TOP participated in paid football. The foray into professional football only lasted two years, however, as TOP usually had no chance compared to the other teams. Despite great regional interest, TOP went back to amateur football.

At the beginning of the 1990s, an opinion poll was carried out in the region around Oss with the question of whether there was any interest in Oss trying again in professional football. This was approved by a clear majority and so TOP Oss, with the support of the Dutch Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB), decided to return to paid football after almost 40 years. Since 1991 the club has played exclusively in the Eerste Divisie , the Dutch second division, except for one third division season (2010/11) . In the 2005/06 season TOP Oss reached the second round of the relegation games for promotion to the honor division , but was defeated in three games by the first division club NAC Breda .

In 2008, TOP Oss was bought by a Turkish-Dutch company (MTC Groep).
