The FC Eindhoven is a Dutch football club from Eindhoven . The club, founded on November 16, 1909, plays in the Eerste Divisie for the 2017/18 season .

history

The association was founded on November 16, 1909 as EVV Eindhoven. In 1954 the club reached the first and so far only championship in the club's history. Previously, the KNVB Cup was the only other title to be won in 1937 . FC Eindhoven were the last amateur champions before professional football was introduced in the Netherlands. The professional club FC Eindhoven was able to assert itself until 1957 before relegating to the second division. In 1969 the crash followed due to financial problems. The club crashed into the third division, but was able to return to the Eerste Divisie at least two years later . Success seemed to return when the club played first class again in 1975, but after only two years, relegation followed. Since 1977 (for over 40 years) FC Eindhoven has always played in the second Dutch soccer league.

Relationship with PSV Eindhoven

The "archenemy" of FC Eindhoven is the big neighbor and local rival PSV Eindhoven . Similar to Glasgow, the rivalry was initially attributed to the different religious affiliations of the two clubs. While the FC was shaped by Roman Catholicism, the PSV was always Protestant and worked with the Philips company. In addition, from the 1930s to the 1950s, FC was considered more successful and better than PSV.

Regardless of the differences of opinion between the two fan camps, both teams decided to cooperate at youth level. Again and again, players from both clubs play for the other or are trained there. Since 2012, PSV / FC Eindhoven have also had a joint women's football department , which plays in the BeNe League founded in 2012 .

Stadion

FC Eindhoven plays in the Jan Louwers Stadium , which was inaugurated in 1934. The opponent in the opening game was Ajax Amsterdam , who won the game 8-2. The stadium has a capacity of 4,500 and was only named in 1997 after the former FC Eindhoven player Jan Louwers , who was able to lead FC Eindhoven to the only championship so far in the mid-1950s.
