Project Runway is an American talent show with a focus on fashion design . The show was hosted by Heidi Klum for the first sixteen seasons . With the seventeenth season Karlie Kloss will take over the moderation.

The participants compete against each other by presenting their clothes , which have to be manufactured according to a given motto and material (e.g. jeans ) within a certain time. The designs are presented by models on a catwalk and evaluated by a jury. One or more participants are selected each week. The prizes in the fourth season were an article in Elle , a starting credit of US $ 100,000 for building up your own brand and a car.
The given design themes vary between the design for a specific person, e.g. B. Sasha Cohen , or Miss USA Tara Conner , but specifications are also made such as creating a design for a fashion brand , such as Banana Republic or Macy’s or a general theme such as a cocktail party. The time limit is usually between half a day and three days. Once the deadline is reached, the participants have to decorate the models and also choose their hairstyle and make-up . The program was broadcast by the NBC subsidiary Bravo Television Network until its fifth season, and in 2009 the broadcasting rights for the sixth season were transferred to the Lifetime Television Network in 2009. A lengthy legal battle over the move was settled in April after a sum of unknown amount was paid.
In May 2018 it was announced that the licenses of the show with the 17th season will go back to the station Bravo. In September 2018 it was confirmed that Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn will not return for another season as they have committed to a new format on Amazon Video .
Charisma
The German pay-TV channel The Biography Channel showed the 7th season of the series for the first time on German TV from March 25, 2011. The station previously broadcast the 4th, 5th and 6th seasons under the name "Project Runway - Designer Wanted!" From March 16, 2010, the 4th season was repeated on the free TV channel VIVA .
In the meantime, the streaming provider Netflix has released the tenth season with German subtitles in German-speaking countries.
