Fritz Korbach (born July 18, 1945 in Diez ; † August 14, 2011 in Leeuwarden , Netherlands ) was a German football coach . He was best known in the Netherlands, where he looked after eleven different teams.

Player career

As a player, Korbach was active for the Dutch amateur clubs ZSC Patria from Zeist and SV Baarn from Baarn .

Coaching career

In 1970, at the age of 25, Korbach became Bert Jacobs' assistant at the newly founded club FC Utrecht . Before that, he had been assistant coach at the predecessor club USV Elinkwijk since 1968 . The football teacher had his first head coach at FC Wageningen , which he supervised between 1973 and 1977. In 1977/78 he finally moved to PEC Zwolle . In the first year at Zwolle, Korbach and the team were promoted to the Eredivisie . In the first year in the top division of the Netherlands, the team reached eighth place. This is the best placement in the club's history to date. A total of 32 points (2-point rule) were earned this season - only in 2002/03 this number of points was reached again, but not exceeded (despite the 3-point rule).

Korbach regularly kept the club away from the relegation places before he was committed to FC Volendam for the 1982/83 season . With Volendam he should make the promotion out of the Eerste Divisie . This goal was achieved with second place in the league. Nevertheless, the paths between the club and the coach separated again. The traditional Dutch club FC Twente lured Korbach to Enschede in the summer of 1983 . Twente had been relegated the previous year and wanted the immediate promotion that Korbach made possible. He immediately led the team in eighth place the following year. After a less successful year 1985/86 the employment relationship was terminated. The SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden finally secured Korbach's services as head coach. After he saved the team from relegation from the second division in 1986/87, he took second place in the Eerste Divisie the following year.

Korbach stayed another year and signed with Go Ahead Eagles Deventer for 1988/89 . As with many clubs before, he again had the task of leading the club into the first class. After less than two years without success, he was replaced by interim coach Henk ten Cate in February . But with the SC Heerenveen , a new task for the German football teacher was quickly found. Although only the 16th place in the second Dutch division was reached, the club rose to the Eredivisie. However, the immediate relegation took place. In 1991/92 the team was third in the Eerste Divisie, which they narrowly missed promotion. Korbach was therefore replaced by Foppe de Haan in October 1992 . After exactly ten years, the coach moved back to FC Volendam in November, but only stayed a year after he got off to a bad start in the following season, despite a good sixth place in the Eredivisie.

In October 1993 Korbach signed a second time with SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden and stayed with the North Dutch club for two years. After relegation in 1994, they did not make it back to the first division in 1995. Between November 1995 and December 1998 he was in charge of VBV De Graafschap Doetinchem in the Eredivisie. With seventh place in 1997, the best club placement in the first division was achieved. 1999 Korbach took over the trainer position at Heracles Almelo . After two years there, he took a break from 2001 to 2003 before Sparta Rotterdam secured the services of the coach. There Korbach was supposed to prevent relegation from the Eredivisie. But the coach only stayed two days. The reason for this was that his doctor advised him to avoid stress and Korbach quit his job after just two training sessions.

In the 2003/04 season he was in charge of the Dutch amateur club ROHDA Raalte . In the summer of 2005 he took the first step to train a team outside the Netherlands. The Indonesian club PSM Makassar lured the Germans to Asia. There they hoped to win the Indonesia Super League under his leadership . But this did not materialize and Korbach moved back to the Netherlands. On October 26, 2006, he replaced Pieter Bijl at the lower class club Harkemase Boys . After a short time, however, this chapter ended again.
