Foppe de Haan (born June 26, 1943 in Lipshuizen ) is a Dutch football coach . Until the end of the 2010/11 season he coached the South African first division club Ajax Cape Town and in 2011 temporarily the national team Tuvalus .

Career

In 1974 de Haan began his coaching career at VV Akkrum . A short time later he came to SC Heerenveen , which he looked after as a youth coach for a year. Between 1977 and 1985 he continued to work in the Netherlands. In 1985 he signed another contract with SC Heerenveen. He remained loyal to this until 2004. A period that no coach in the Netherlands has been able to beat. In 1993 he led the then second division team to the Eredivisie . In 1999, Heerenveen was runner-up under de Haan and qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club's history . On May 10, 2004, after his last game, he was awarded the Order of Orange-Nassau .

Trainer of the Jong Oranje

In 2004 de Haan took over as coach of the U-21 national team of the Netherlands . After the team failed to qualify at the U-21 European Football Championship in 2004 , he led it into the 2006 European Championship final two years later . There, the first U-21 junior title was won 3-0 against Ukraine . This team was still defeated in the group stage. In 2007 in the Netherlands, started as host and defender, this success was repeated with a 4-1 triumph over Serbia .

2008 Olympic team coach

By reaching the semi-finals of the U-21 European Championship in 2007, the Netherlands qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics . In contrast to the European Championship in 2007, under-23 players and three players over this age are allowed at the Olympics. Haan mainly relied on players who were already U-21 national players under him. He also appointed Roy Makaay , Gerald Sibon and Kew Jaliens to lead the young team.

Further stations

After his engagement with the KNVB , de Haan went to South Africa, where he coached the first division club Ajax Cape Town . He led the team to the cup final in 2010 and narrowly missed the championship title on the last matchday in 2011. For the 2011/12 season he took over the Tuvalus national team , a non-FIFA member. He helps to structure football in the Polynesian island nation and supports the football association on its way into FIFA . In his debut game as a coach, Tuvalu defeated the Samoa national team 3-0. In October 2015, de Haan returned to sc Heerenveen as an interim trainer.
