Kew Jaliens (born September 15, 1978 in Rotterdam ) is a former Dutch football player .

Career

After Kew Jaliens had played for various clubs in the vicinity of his hometown Rotterdam, he received a professional contract with Sparta Rotterdam in the first division in 1996 . The then 18-year-old competed twice in his first season. But in the following two years he was already a fixture in the Sparta defense. Shortly after the start of the 1999 season, he moved to league competitor Willem II Tilburg , where he was also a regular for the next five years.

In 2004 he followed his trainer and his defensive colleague Joris Mathijsen to the ambitious AZ Alkmaar . Thanks to the new defense formation, the club was third in the championship in 2005 and runner-up in 2006. In 2009 he was Dutch champion and Supercup winner with Alkmaar .

From January 2011 to 2013 he played in Poland with Wisła Krakow and won the Polish championship in 2011. In August 2013 he joined the Australian A-League club Newcastle United Jets . After a year and a half in Newcastle, Jaliens moved within the league to Melbourne City FC in 2015 , where he played his last games as a professional footballer.

National team

On March 1, 2006, he was used for the first time in the Dutch national team . Along with Joris Mathijsen and Tim de Cler, he was part of the Alkmaar defensive trio in the Dutch squad for the 2006 World Cup . In 2007 he made the last of his ten appearances in the jersey of the senior national team.

In 2008 he took part in the Olympic Summer Games with the Dutch Olympic team.
