Tim de Cler (born November 8, 1978 in Leiden ) is a former Dutch football player .

In his hometown of Leiden at the Lugdunum club , Tim de Cler was discovered by scouts from Ajax Amsterdam and brought into the Ajax youth team. There he went through the youth teams until he was used for the first time in the first team in the Eredivisie in 1997/98 . In the same year Ajax became champions and cup winners . In the following years, which were not so satisfactory for the Dutch series champion, he was regularly used in defense and in 1999 won the Dutch Cup again.

But when he was only second choice in the successful year 2002 with championship and another cup win under coach Ronald Koeman , he moved to AZ Alkmaar . There he was immediately a regular player in the defense and was instrumental in the rise of the club, which led to the runner-up in 2006. In the 2004/05 season he was also voted third behind Dirk Kuyt and Phillip Cocu in the election for Dutch Footballer of the Year .

In June 2007 he moved to Feyenoord Rotterdam . There he played four more years in the Eredivisie and won the Dutch Cup for the fourth and final time in 2008. After his contract expired, he moved to AEK Larnaka in Cyprus for the 2011/12 season . On the Mediterranean island he played again with his Rotterdam teammate Kevin Hofland . He ended his career in 2013.

De Cler played 17 players for the Dutch national football team from 2005 to 2008 . He also participated in the 2006 World Cup and the 2008 European Championship .
