Phillip John-William Cocu (born October 29, 1970 in Eindhoven ) is a former Dutch football player and current coach . As a player and coach with PSV Eindhoven , he was six times Dutch champions , three times cup winners and won the national Supercup four times . As a midfielder, he completed 101 international matches with the national team of the Netherlands and was fourth with her at the 1998 World Cup . He is currently the head coach of the English second division club Derby County .
Player career

Phillip Cocu is a trained midfielder and began his football career in 1988 with the Dutch first division club AZ Alkmaar . From 1990 he played for Vitesse Arnheim for five years before moving to PSV Eindhoven in 1995. In 1998 it took him to Camp Nou for FC Barcelona under Louis van Gaal . After the 2003/2004 season, after a failed contract extension with FC Barcelona, he returned to his old place of work at PSV Eindhoven, with whom he reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in the 2004/05 season. From 2007 to 2008 he played at Al-Jazira Club in the United Arab Emirates ´ and then retired from his career.
National team
Phillip Cocu made his debut in the Dutch national team on April 24, 1996 in the 1-0 defeat by Germany . He played his 101st and last international match in the 2006 World Cup round of 16 against Portugal .
Coaching career
From 2008 to 2012 Cocu was assistant coach of the Dutch Elftal under Bert van Marwijk . On February 17, 2010, he received his coaching diploma.
In May 2013, Cocu signed a four-year contract as head coach at PSV Eindhoven as the successor to Dick Advocaat . In 2015 and 2016 he won the Eredivisie championship in this role .
In June 2018, Cocu signed a contract as the head coach of Fenerbahçe Istanbul to replace Aykut Kocaman , but was dismissed in October after the team had slipped into the bottom third of the table.
After several months of unemployment, the Dutchman followed for season 2019/20 on Frank Lampard , which the Chelsea took over as head coach at English second division club Derby County . His contract is valid until June 2023.
