Curtis Eugene Davies (born March 15, 1985 in Leytonstone , London ) is an English football player . The defender has been under contract with second division Derby County since 2017 .

Club career

Early career

Davies played in the youth of Wimbledon FC at the age of 15, but received no further contract there. At Luton Town he then received a scholarship and made his debut in the club's first team in 2003.

In 2004/05 he became a key player at Luton Town. He completed 44 league games that season and helped the club to the championship title in Football League One . Davies was named “League One Player of the Year” for his achievements and was elected to the “PFA League One team of season” together with five teammates.

In the following season, Davies completed six league games for Luton. In his last game in the Hatters dress on August 29, 2005, he scored the 2-1 winner against Millwall FC. Two days later, he moved to West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League for a transfer fee of three million pounds .

West Bromwich Albion

For Bromwich, Davies was the most expensive purchase by a defense attorney to date. Despite a strong season and 33 league appearances in a row, he could not prevent the relegation of the Baggies and still signed a new four-year contract with West Brom in late July 2006. After he was already partially captain during the first division season, he took over this position in the 2006/07 season, making it the second youngest captain in the history of the club.

On February 17, he got his first expulsion in his professional career after seeing a yellow card for two fouls on Middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka . A month later he broke his fifth metatarsal against Crystal Palace , causing him to be out until the end of the season. This season, too, he was voted into the “PFA Championship Team of the Year”. Without Davies, West Brom lost 1-0 in the decisive play-off game for promotion against Derby County .

On June 21, 2007 Davies submitted a transfer request for the first time, but this was rejected by the club's management. On August 31, it was announced that Davies would be loaned to first division club Aston Villa for one season , with the option of a permanent commitment for the 2008/09 season.

Aston Villa

Davies made his debut for Aston Villa's first team in the League Cup 1-0 loss to Leicester City. He compared his performance in an interview with that of a “pub team player”.

At the end of December, the defender was able to fight for a regular place on the Villa team after Zat Knight was suspended for a few weeks because of being sent off against Chelsea. On March 1, 2008, he tore his Achilles tendon in a match against Arsenal and is expected to be out for six months. Despite this serious injury, Davies was awarded a four-year contract at the end of the season.

From October to December 2010 Davies was loaned to Leicester City , where he was used 12 times.

Birmingham City

On January 28, 2011, Aston Villa announced that Davies would move directly from Leicester City to Birmingham City , where he signed a three-and-a-half year contract until June 2014. He played there the second half of the season in the English Premier League, in which Birmingham City did not reach relegation and relegated to the Football League Championship , where Davies played two seasons as a regular. In total, he completed 89 league games (6 games in the Premier League and 83 games in the championship) for Birmingham, in which he scored eleven goals.

Hull City

At the beginning of the 2013/14 season , Davies moved to the Premier League a year before his contract with Birmingham at Hull City expired . He was able to assert himself immediately as a regular player and came in his first season with his new club to 37 league appearances; he scored two goals. In the Premier League 2014/15 he rose with his team as third from bottom in the second division. As fourth in the Football League Championship 2015/16 , Hull City moved into the play-offs the following season and secured a return to the first division after successes over Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday . After relegated from the Premier League in 2016/17 , Davies decided to move to another club.

Derby County

On June 7, 2017, the 32-year-old center-back signed a two-year deal with the second division club Derby County .

National team career

Davies made his debut in England's U21 national team on February 28 against Norway's U21s.

He was appointed to England's provisional national team in January 2008 by England coach Fabio Capello . But so far he has not been used.

Davies could play for Sierra Leone due to the birthplace of his father and also for Ireland due to the birthplace of a grandmother , but so far has only expressed interest in a service for the Sierra Leone national football team if the English national team should not need his services.
