Jason Paul Knight (born February 13, 2001 in Dublin ) is an Irish football player who is under contract with the English second division club Derby County . The midfielder has been an Irish Under-21 international since June 2019 .

Career

Jason Knight started playing football at Cabinteely FC , a club based in Dublin, Ireland , at the age of four . In mid-November 2015, he joined the youth department of the English club Derby County , where he signed a three-year contract and was assigned to the U15 team. At the Rams he already played in the reserve team in the Premier League 2 in the 2017/18 season, but in this and in the following season 2018/19 he mainly played for the U18 team. At the age of 18, the new head coach Phillip Cocu let him advance to the first team. He made his debut in the second highest English division on August 5, 2019 (1st matchday) in a 2-1 away win against Huddersfield Town , when he came on for Kieran Dowell in the 88th minute . He quickly established himself as a rotation player this 2019/20 season . On December 30, 2019 (25th matchday) he scored both goals for his team in a 2-1 home win against Charlton Athletic and thus his first goals for the first team derbies.

National team

Jason Knight has played for the Irish U17 national team since October 2017 . In May 2018 he took part with this selection at the U17 European Championship in England , where he was used in all four Ireland games. With this tournament, his U17 career ended after 12 appearances.

In November 2018 he completed three friendly international matches for the U18s . From September 2018 to March 2019, he played in six U19 games in which he scored a goal.

The midfielder has been an Irish U21 international since June 2019 .
