Johan Cruyff bowl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Johan Cruyff bowl (original name: Johan Cruijff Schaal ) is the football competition for the Dutch Supercup named after the trophy to be awarded . The title was played for the first time (then without an official name) in 1949 and again annually since 1991 between the national champion (the winner of the Eredivisie ) and the winner of the KNVB Cup competition . If a team wins the double , the master plays against the runner-up in the Eredivisie.

The Johan Cruyff bowl is organized by the Royal Dutch Football Association KNVB . After the competition was named PTT Telecom Cup after a telecommunications company at the beginning of three years , it was renamed Super Cup for two seasons in 1994 . Since 1996 it has been named after the soccer player Johan Cruyff , whose Johan Cruyff Foundation receives part of the proceeds.

The game for the Johan Cruyff Cup takes place a week before the first game day of the Eredivisie and has now become the traditional season opener for Dutch football. While it was played at De Kuip in Rotterdam in the first few years , the game for the Johan Cruyff bowl has been held in the Amsterdam Arena since 1996 .

The Johan Cruyff Trophy Cup itself is a silver cup about 60 centimeters in diameter. The names of the opponents, the date and the name of the competition (numbered in Roman numerals since 1996) are engraved on it.
