DFV Supercup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The DFV Supercup (also Pokal des Deutschen Sportechos or Sportecho Supercup ) was a competition of the German Football Association of the GDR (DFV) . In 1989, the GDR champions Dynamo Dresden met the FDGB Cup winner BFC Dynamo , who won the game 4-1.

The DFV Supercup was held only once. Already in 1988 there were plans to hold such a competition, but the double win of the BFC Dynamo meant that they were discarded for the time being. The 1989 Supercup also served as the season opener for the 1989/90 season and took place in the Cottbus Stadium of Friendship in front of 22,347 spectators.

After the Northeast German Football Association (NOFV) had taken over the game operations from the DFV during the 1990/91 football season and was incorporated into the German Football Association (DFB) , no further Supercup game was played for the former DFV area. Instead, the last GDR champion Hansa Rostock and the cup finalist Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl played in the DFB Supercup 1991 against the respective representatives of the DFB division.

Starting position

Dynamo Dresden had become champions in the 1988/89 season and had dethroned the defending champion BFC Dynamo for the first time in ten years. With eight points ( two-point rule ) and a much better goal difference, the lead was clear. But the BFC was able to keep itself harmless by repeating the cup win in 1988. With 27: 3 goals in six games, the Berlin stormed through the cup season 1988/89 and only had initial difficulties in the round of 16 with the second division Motor Schönebeck, when an extension to the 6: 2 victory was necessary.

Course of the game

Heiko Bonan with the DFV Supercup

Both teams played the 1-4-3-2 system with libero and two storm tips . The newcomers, the national players Detlef Schößler near Dresden and Heiko Bonan near Berlin, were used on both sides. While Dresden's trainer Geyer was able to offer his best line-up, the BFC lacked the regular staff Frank Rohde and Eike Küttner . At Dynamo Dresden the nomination of 30-year-old Andreas Trautmann, who had just recovered from an injury, surprised. It was a bow from Geyer to the longstanding asset of the Dresdeners, from whom the coach did not want to withhold the career highlight of the Supercup.

From the beginning a fast-paced game developed, driven by the Dresdeners Schößler and Kirchner and the BFC players Ernst and Fügner. Initially, however, there was a lack of compelling combinations, as both sides were too keen on man marking. As the playing time increased, the BFC Dynamo became more secure, was more imaginative and flexible than its opponent, thanks to an excellent performance by its new midfielder Bonan. Again and again dangerous attacks were carried forward from the secure defense. So it was no coincidence that Berlin's central defender Bernd Schulz opened the scoring after 29 minutes. It turned out that the use of Trautmann was a mistake. His weakness in form brought uncertainty into the Dresden defense, in which only Kirchner stood out.

The pace of play did not decrease in the second half either. The BFC storm peaks Doll and Thom fought bitter duels with Schößler and Kirchner, with the advantages clearly being with the Berlin attackers. With the substitutions of Trautmann and Gütschow for Hauptmann and Jähnig, Dresden coach Geyer hoped for more security in defense and better build-up of the game. But there was nothing to be done against the wealth of tricks of Thom and Doll that day. Within 14 minutes, Doll's goals ensured the early game decision, with the penalty kick in the 74th minute to make it 3-0 controversial. Six minutes before the end, BFC midfielder Ernst made the win for the cup winners 4-0, Sammers goal in the 88th minute was just a cosmetic result.
