Shabono complex of a Yanomani village

A Shapono , usually also found in the spelling Shabono , is the name for a round house in which the Yanomami in South America live.

nature

It is built mainly from posts, tendrils and leaves and lasts about two years - after that it is usually burned (because of parasitic or annoying insects). In the middle is a large uncovered courtyard, only the edges are covered. The Yanomami live here with up to seven families - each has its own private zone (with fireplace).
