The Germany Cup was a one-time competition held in 1990 in which the reigning GDR champions 1. FC Dynamo Dresden won 1-0 against the German champions FC Bayern Munich with a goal from Torsten Gütschow in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium .

The competition was modeled on the model of the DFB Supercup or DFV Supercup . At the time, the cup ultimately served more as the long-awaited meeting of the two great German-German crowd pullers, who last met in the 1973/74 European Cup .

The game took place on November 27, 1990, one week after the dissolution of the German Football Association of the GDR . The title itself, in which FC Bayern did not appear for the first time, was never officially recognized by the German Football Association . Dynamo Dresden top performers such as Ulf Kirsten and Matthias Sammer had already left Dynamo at this point.

In the same year on August 22, 1990 there was another competition called Holsten Germany Cup . This was played out between the FDGB Cup winner 1. FC Dynamo Dresden and the DFB Cup winner 1. FC Kaiserslautern in Dresden . 1. FC Kaiserslautern won this game 5-3 on penalties (1-1 after penalty (1-1, 1-1), 4-2 on penalties).
