Gerald Sibon (born April 19, 1974 in Emmen ) is a former Dutch soccer player who last played in the 2011/12 season in the Eredivisie at SC Heerenveen .

Career

society

Sibon comes from the youth of VV Dalen and then played for FC Twente in Enschede , where he made three appearances in the Eredivisie as a 19-year-old . From 1994 he was a regular player for the second division club VVV-Venlo for two years and the almost two meter tall striker proved his scoring qualities with 36 goals. Then the first division club Roda JC from Kerkrade took him under contract and there he was also able to convince. The victory with the club in the national cup was his first national title.

From 1997 he played for the top club Ajax Amsterdam . Ajax won the double (championship and cup) in 1998 and was able to defend the championship title the following year. However, he had difficulties in asserting himself consistently against the competition in his own team in the storm and so after two years he accepted the offer to move to England to Sheffield Wednesday . There the Dutchman was a regular by storm, but could not prevent relegation to the second English division in the first year.

In early 2003 he returned to the Dutch honor division and joined the SC Heerenveen . After two years he moved to the top club PSV in Eindhoven , which won the double in 2005. The 2005/06 season was very disappointing for Gerald Sibon, so that at the age of 32 he took the opportunity to move abroad again.

He came to the German Bundesliga club 1. FC Nürnberg at short notice in the 2006/07 season as a replacement for Joshua Kennedy, who lost due to injury . But after he could not play a special role in the storm there, his engagement there ended again after a year. For the 2007/08 season Sibon returned to his native Netherlands for SC Heerenveen. In the summer of 2010 he moved to the newly formed Australian club Melbourne Heart , which he left again in February 2011 after 27 appearances with seven goals and five assists. For the 2011/12 season he returned to SC Heerenveen, where he signed a one-year contract and then ended his career.

National team

For the 2008 Summer Olympics , Sibon was appointed by the selection trainer Foppe de Haan as one of the three permitted players over 23 years of age. Sibon made partial appearances in all four games during the tournament and was the top scorer in the Dutch selection with two goals. The team failed with 1: 2 after extra time in the quarter-finals at the eventual Olympic champion Argentina.
