Henk ten Cate (born December 9, 1954 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch football coach .

Player career

Henk ten Cate started his career with Vitesse Arnheim , PFC Rheden and Go Ahead Eagles Deventer . In 1980 he moved to the North American professional league NASL for the Edmonton Drillers for a year . His other stations were again Go Ahead Eagles Deventer (1980 to 1985), Telstar Ijmuiden (1981/82) and SC Heracles Almelo (1985/86).

Coaching career

After several coaching positions in his home country, ten Cate moved to the German second division KFC Uerdingen 05 , but rose with this in the regional league . He then had his second coaching position abroad at MTK Budapest , with whom he won the Hungarian Cup in 2000. After three years at NAC Breda , he was assistant coach under Frank Rijkaard at FC Barcelona for three years . After a year as a coach at Ajax Amsterdam, ten Cate became assistant coach at Chelsea FC under Avram Grant . After Grant was released, he was initially assured that this would not endanger his position. However, on May 29, 2008, he was also finally released. Since June 13, 2008 ten Cate has been under contract with the traditional Greek club Panathinaikos Athens . The employment relationship at Panathinaikos ended prematurely on December 8, 2009. After two coaching positions in the Arab region, Henk ten Cate became the new coach on December 14, 2011 at the Chinese football club Shandong Luneng Taishan . In 2013 he coached Sparta Rotterdam .
